Oliver Jackson was a curious sort of fella, and he never took kindly to losing much. 

 

He still remembers vividly when Krueger hit him below the waist. Junior Krueger bested him, and he did not like that, not one little bit.

In the hallways of Bartlet the summer air came in through the open windows. It was the last week of school and freedom that all students enjoy was calling to them. “Hey Oli, you ready for tryouts?”

 

It was Jayden. 

 

Jayden Gomez is set to be the new wrestling captain, the youngest the school has ever had. Oliver is not quite sure what to make of him. His record on the mat was good, but he seems young, at least younger than himself and Oliver is not sure if he will make a good captain or not. Logan Krueger is leaving big shoes to fill in his wake. Even if he plans to stay on as coach, he’s not positive if Jayden will be up to par with the legacy that Logan is leaving behind. 

 

“Hi Jayden, I’m ready. Been practicing for weeks.”

 

“I’ve noticed,” Jayden says with a toothy grin, clapping him on the shoulder. “Looking good.” 

 

Oliver perks up, and can’t help but feel the tug of his mouth as a smile appears on his face. 

 

Then, Oliver remembers his mission for the day. 

 

“Have you seen Caleb today, Junior’s older brother?”

 

“Oh yeah,” Jayden answers quickly. “Don’t tell Junior but,” Jayden steps up conspiratorially and whispers “Caleb is trying out, but he wants to keep it a secret.”

 

The idea… tickles him. This is too good to be true. He can beat Caleb up in front of Junior. 

 

A sly grin spread on Oliver’s face, and he wrinkles his nose trying to make sure that Jayden does not suspect his inner glee. 

 

“I won’t tell. You can count on me.” Oliver gives Jayden a salute and the boy giggles. 

 

“Cool. I appreciate that, Oliver.”

 

Jayden thumps him on the shoulder again and head off, leaving Oliver to daydream when he gets Caleb alone. If he is trying out and practicing in secret, he will have to wait. Which means…. Oliver considers for a moment. ‘I will have to wait to get my revenge. But Juniors guard is usually down… in the showers.’

 

The bell chimes above him, breaking his thoughts. Oliver’s body moves on autopilot to his first period. But already he is planning out how best to corner Junior before practice. He wants him off his game when he practices and getting ready for the tryouts. If he can, Oliver would love to mess up Junior’s tryouts; which means that he will have to get him good tonight.

Oliver is standing underneath the stream of water in the locker room. He’s been here awhile, and already his fingers are wrinkling along with his feet. But he waits. Junior is one to wash before and after practice.

“Kid likes to joke.”

 

“I am pretty funny, so do you want me to wash your back or not?”

 

Jayden clears his throat, “Why don’t we all just—wash up and then we can practice upstairs. Alright?”

 

Junior gives his shoulders a shake. 

 

“Whatever.”

 

Oliver can’t wait to get upstairs. 

 

He takes a step towards Junior, just as the boy steps back and he grabs his shoulder. 

 

A smirk crosses his face, and Junior says “Finally. What took you so long?”

 

Grabbing his waist with both hands, Junior makes his move.

“I’m going to go upstairs. I’ve got to practice…you two have fun.”

 

Jayden moves out of the shower water hitting from above, just as Oliver takes him place. Jayden keeps on walking but Junior reaches out and ever so gently, he runs a hand down his flank. The tender gesture makes Jayden stop for a moment the two sharing a look. 

 

Junior winks at him. “See you soon, Jayden.”

 

Jayden keeps going, wanting to stay to see where this might lead but he does not. Instead he heads upstairs.

Junior slightly unsure for the first time takes a few tentative steps closer. 

 

“Come on in, the water is fine.”

 

“I thought that you suggested I should take a cold shower,” Junior says.

 

“I did.” 

 

Junior touches the water. “That’s not cold.”

 

“The knob is right there,” Oliver says pointing haphazardly behind him. Oliver steps further back so they can both fit under the stream.

Oliver smirks. “Okay, Junior.” Turning off the water. “But…wait a sec.”

 

Junior pauses in the doorway, waiting.
